“First best never comes, second best comes too late, give them third best to go on”, his version of the "cult of the imperfect” by Robert Watson-Watt (look it up, it was key to developing radar technology in time during WWII).

“You get 80% of the results by doing 20% of the work” (a version of the Pareto principle).

“Who’s in charge is context dependent” (once said during a company-wide presentation on that exact topic when his laser pointer failed and an IT person got up to fix it – “see, who’s in charge is context dependent” he said again pointing to the IT fellow)

“Work expands to fill the time available” (Parkinson’s Law – how many times has a meeting agenda concluded early and yet the discussions seem to continue anyway…).

“You don’t work for someone; you work with someone”.  Dick treated everyone as a colleague and introduced us to customers as his colleague, even when he was the CEO.
